Imports – Our Spring Night Tennis 2014 Premiers

Congratulations to the Imports team – Littlehampton Tennis Club’s 2014 Spring Night Tennis Premiers. They are pictured above receiving the inaugural Stan Miels Shield, named after long time serving club committee member, player and life member Stan Miels (now deceased).

Players were thrilled to have Dennis Miels, Stan’s son, attend and present the shield for the first time. He spoke about the early days, where tennis club members were required to spread tar and sand from large 44 gallon drums onto the courts. They then had to wait for it to set before marking the courts out. Oh, how things have changed!!

The winning team consisted of Sally Fisher, Darren Samardzic, Andrew May (captain), Steve Noble and Makoto Ogawa (Japanese exchange student – absent in the photo above as she returned to Japan before the final was played).

Runners up were a very worthy and challenging team, Hot Sets (named so, by their captain…..). Pictured below are Hot Sets’ Luke Gollan, Amy Gelven, Kaye Zadow and captain Brad Rudiger.
